Woodbury’s Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

Woodbury’s Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

Woodbury, Minnesota, is taking significant steps to preserve its natural environment and promote sustainability. The city has adopted an Environmental Stewardship Plan, focusing on areas such as transportation, land use, buildings, energy, waste management, water, local food, agriculture, greenspace, ecosystems, health, safety, and the economy. This plan aims to guide the city in making appropriate investments in preservation, adaptation, mitigation, and maintenance to ensure a sustainable future.

In addition to the Environmental Stewardship Plan, Woodbury has developed a Natural Resources Management Plan to systematically restore and promote native plant diversity. This plan prioritizes areas of high ecological quality, aiming to preserve existing native plant diversity and suppress invasive species. The city is also planning a new water treatment facility to address water quality concerns, with construction set to begin in November 2024.

Residents can contribute to these efforts by participating in local programs such as the Food Scraps Pickup Program, which allows residents to recycle food scraps from home. By engaging in these initiatives, the community can work together to protect and enhance Woodbury’s environment for future generations.
